Now that my thumb has healed...

...I can get back to a bit of sewing. About 3 weeks ago, I took a swipe at the side of my right thumb, while carelessly using a Pampered Chef kitchen mandolin without the hand guard. Not my most brilliant move, I can assure you. I have a picture of the wounded digit, but trust me, you don't want to see it.
I was quite surprised to find out just how much a left-hander uses and needs a right-handed thumb: getting dressed, putting toothpaste on the toothbrush, flossing, hitting the "space" bar while typing, cooking.... Sewing was simply out of the question. Truly, we humans couldn't rule the world without opposable thumbs. God knew what He was doing.
I had finished this top right before The Incident. I took out a bit of the fullness in both the front and back, as I have no desire at this advanced age to look pregnant. I'm very happy with it.

About two months ago, with a little time off, I took a trip to LA's garment district. Oh my. Simply, oh, my. What fun I had. Seriously, I had no idea such wonders existed. I think my hubby knew (he grew up in LA), but he was holding out on me, understandably. I think it took me the better of 3 hours just to go a few blocks.
One of my finds was an entire store, yes, an entire store, with bolts and bolts of fabric for $1 a yard. I was like a chocoholic at the Hershey's factory. I had to hold back. All I bought (at that store, at least) was two cuts of fabric for pajama pants.
I got them sewn up this past week, which was good, as my old ones were really becoming suitable for nothing more than garage rags.
Terrible pictures, but I was too lazy to take Babs apart in order to get them on her. They look much better on me than on the hanger, and no, my waist isn't that big! It's just the hanger, people.

Oh my word I MUST go with you next time I'm in LA! Seriously, all they have in the entire Shenandoah Valley is quilting cottons, and for some reason, lots of batiks. Those PJ's are too cute!

I'm glad your thumb is feeling better. That's a terribly handicapping thing -- losing a digit.
