Little Girls' Birthdays

This month, both Violet and Faith have birthdays.  I had great fun making them some things to add to the celebration!
First off, they both got new crowns:
And, then I made birthday flags:
When our children were little, they each had a flag, too, with their name appliqued in the middle.  (I did a MUCH better job with these!)  Every year, a new patch (some were sewn on and some were painted) was added with their age and an icon or two to represent something that they had accomplished that year.   They were then flown from the house flagpole on birthdays or any special day.
In looking through my photos for this post, I realized that I forgot to take a picture of the patches that I made for the girls.  I used felt and my embroidery machine, and then I used heat-and-bond to attach the patches.  Violet has a had a strong fascination with dinosaurs this year, so hers had a cute, not-at-all-dangerous, dino with her number "4."  For Faith's "2", I made a teddy bear, but then realized that that isn't representational at all of her little tenacious, on-the-edge-of-destructive, tendencies!  Next year, though...
And, finally, for our anniversary, I made The Male a helmet bag.  He had recently used some very fancy-schmancy paint on it and didn't want to put it in his pannier without a bag.  So, I made the bag, based on the one that came with my helmet.  I didn't embroider it, though, until afterward, so he could tell me exactly what he wanted on it. Pops13 is his user name on the forum he frequents.

I love that flag idea! Did you just do a casing at the top or was it attached to a stick? Suggest a non fade fabric? I really want to do this. It's really not too Girly!

Hi Lissa! The flags are super easy to make; just a yard of cotton canvas. I hemmed along the edges, and then folded a casing on the left side for the pole to slide up into. Stitching across the top of the casing so the pole stops and the flag doesn't slide all the way down the pole. And, I'm making one for Silas' birthday right now--bright orange, not girly at ALL!
