Reflecting on January

So, 1/12th of 2010 is already behind us! Zoom, zoom! It's not just for Mazda anymore... :-/
So, while it went by rather quickly, it was a good month.
Here's the scoop:

Books I Read:
The Collected Poems of Ruth Bell Graham
A Reliable Wife: not recommended, but it spoke to our deepest need, despite our thoughts and plans otherwise, to be loved
The YadaYada Prayer Group (audiobook): I enjoyed this and was happily surprised to find such a widely read book to be so theologically sound.
Tea Time for the Traditionally Built: Love this series.
Baking Cakes in Kigali: This was recommended in World magazine and I did enjoy it. Some details were hard to take, as the book is set in Rwanda and quite a few of the story details revolved around the genocide. It caused me to do a little research and it is truly horrifying.

Movies I Watched:
Knocked Up: Yes, I'm rather embarrassed to admit this. However, in my defense, I did watch the made-for-TV version, which was still rather vulgar in parts. I was intrigued, having heard that it was pro-life, and indeed it was. Here's a bit of dialog, probably the most amazing to ever come out in a made-for-the-masses Hollywood film. The pregnant heroine at lunch with her obviously upper-class, concerned with appearances, mother. Mother to daughter: "Your step-sister had the same problem and she took care of it. Then, she got married later and had a "real" baby." The scene was written in an way that made it clear the mother was being ridiculed. It was fabulous. And there you have it, folks, why abortion can be taken so lightly: it's not a "real" baby until you want it.
The Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum: Again, the need for redemption.
The Proposal: As much as you might try to make it otherwise, marriage is indeed something quite serious and more than just a "piece of paper."
Voyage to Italy: an older, Ingrid Bergman movie. Not a great movie, but again the theme for the month, marriage is important and not to be lightly discarded.
A Good Woman: see above.

Things Sewn:
Two t-shirts
A dress for me
A dress for a little girl at church

Pages Scrapped:
Four, for Project 365
Four items for Precepts and Promises
Notable Events:
We participated in a neighborhood-wide day of garage sales
More eBay and Craigslist sales: yay!
West Coasters met here
Doug went to a CDR conference in Houston
And, while he was gone, my back went out, again. Sigh. That's why I watched so many movies!
I was prescribed a cream to remove age damage spots from my face, before they become skin cancer. So, my face is covered with red spots, where the medication is working, and now, it's beginning to itch. Good times.

Blessings:
Church, sermons and fellowship
Lunch with good friends
West Coasters
Kids and grandchildren
The Word!

Until next month!
