Oh, this was a fun project. For the most part...
Years ago, way back when we lived in Oregon, our dear friend Nancy made us the Advent calendar from this book.
The banner is red felt, with a green Christmas tree on it. There are 24 "ornaments", one for each day from Dec. 1 to Dec. 24. Each ornament represents something about the coming of Jesus; ie, a candle to represent the Light of the World, a shepherd's staff to represent Jesus as our Great Shepherd, etc. Each day has a story, a hymn, and a prayer, taking only about 5 minutes, perfect for little ones.
Our family loved this tradition, and I thought my children might like to carry it on with their children, too.
I gave the original to my darling daughter, and then I made this new one for my son's family. The original symbols were all cut out of felt, but not one to take the easy road, I decided to embroider the ornaments.
So, of course, there was drama.
I managed to find/make/edit designs for each of the symbols from either files I already owned or from free designs on the Web.
That is all except for Mary, Joseph, and Jesus! Just the principle players. I have until next December to figure it out. I'm a little picky, though. I don't want cartoon-like representations, nor anything too complicated. I'd prefer more abstract designs, so as not to put an image in the little one's heads that is a misrepresentation of the real persons. So, if anyone knows where I might look, I'd appreciate the information.
I pray that this will be a blessing to my family, to continue to legacy of faith with which we have been already blessed.

Thanks again for putting in the effort to make this for us; it's very meaningful and will be a part of our Christmas celebration for years to come.
